Hands on Mentorship

Dance can be a powerful tool for developing individual leadership skill. The process of learning dance teaches our students to set goals, to work effectively in teams, to creatively solve problems, and a host of other character building attributes.

Our unique dance mentorship program teaches young dancers to become confident artists, teachers and leaders by participating in hands on projects where they get the opportunity to learn the in’s and out’s of all things dance related.

A Unique Focus

At The Dance Co-op, we believe the greatest gift we can give the artistic community is a dancer who not only has a broad knowledge and strong technique, but who can apply those talents in a spirit of confidence, compassion, and a commitment to community service.

Our Student Dance Company

Our Dance Company is a new performance-based program designed for dancers ages 5 through teen who are ready for additional stage experience, teamwork, and a deeper involvement in the dance world.

This program is a collaborative effort built from a love of dance and a passion for our students. Our goal is to mentor dancers beyond technique by introducing them to the full experience of being part of a dance company—including rehearsals, performance preparation, costuming, fundraising, marketing, and studio involvement. Dancers will also take part in studio activities and group experiences that help build responsibility, confidence, and community.

Dance Company focuses on serving our local community through performances at events such as parades, veterans homes, festivals, nursing homes, and other community opportunities. In addition, company routines will be performed in our annual recital.

Because this is our first year, we do not yet have a fixed performance schedule. Instead, we will be actively developing performance opportunities throughout the season and welcome suggestions from families and the community, including talent shows, halftime performances, festivals, and other events. On rare occasions, we may also pursue performance opportunities in surrounding cities such as Springfield, St. Louis, and Branson.

Rehearsals

  • First rehearsal: August 11th at 6:00 PM

  • Weekly rehearsals: Tuesdays from 5:00–7:00 PM

  • Dancers will not be scheduled for the entire time each week; rehearsal time will vary based on routines and groups

The first week will also include informal placement auditions, a parent meeting, and a dancer meet-and-greet. Placement auditions are non-competitive and are used solely to help determine appropriate group placement and choreography structure.

We ask that at least one parent attend during the first week meeting to review expectations, plans for the year, and volunteer opportunities.

Requirements

  • Dancers must be enrolled in at least one regular dance class at the studio

  • Required monthly tuition: $60 per dancer

  • Required attire includes current class tights and shoes, plus a black leotard (listed in dress code)
